Wrist Pain and Conditions

Wrist Conditions

Pain in the wrist is not fun.  We use our wrist all the time and when these injuries happen then it changes our lives dramatically.   Wrist injuries can come from traumatic injuries and from chronic overuse

Scaphoid Fracture:

Starting with Traumatic injuries, we have Scaphoid fractures. This is common among falling injuries. When you fall you stretch your hand out to catch yourself and then you fracture a small bone in your wrist.

You’ll need to get x-rays taken multiple times to check the healing progress and wear a cast to heal.  So, at the time of injury, Urgent care is going to be where you want to go and get evaluated.

Carpal Tunnel:

This is a more gradual injury that comes over time and with overuse injury.   This is very common among those who work at a desk and computer.

This is when the space “Tunnel” in your wrist where the nerves go through is diminishing and the verse don’t have their normal space. This will irritate the nerves and you’ll feel nerve pain in your hand.

Sprain/Strain:

This is a traumatic injury that can also happen from catching yourself from falling. Ligaments and muscles may get injured. These can take a few weeks to recover.

What can you do? Wearing a brace will be helpful for a short time to keep it safe.  But exercises to work on grip strength will be great rehab for the wrist and beyond rehab as well.
